As Uganda celebrated 55 years of
independence, music fraternity mourned the Jahlive hero, the young hero Danz
kumapeesa. Danz was attacked and beaten
on June 4th by unknown people while he was returning home and from that time,
he has been in coma at Nsambya hospital till his eventual death.
Though his death comes this way,
several Ugandans had pledged towards recovering the life of this young star
thru individual donations or charity fundraisings. On July 1st, a fundraising
car wash drive was organized at Panamera. Local celebrities like Juliana Kanyomozi, Bobi
Wine, Nutty Neithan among others all contributed to the Danz to cater for his
accumulating medical bills at Nsambya hospital’s Intensive Care Unit (ICU) which
raised around Shs7m.
On August 23rd, Bebe Cool also went
to Nsambya and donated Shs5m and challenged fellow musicians and stakeholders
in the entertainment industry to come forth and fundraise for Danz’s medical
treatment. His challenge was embraced by some and in total, over Shs30m was
collected which was in excess of the Shs20m he needed to be discharged from
hospital.
Artists also agreed that a musical
concert had to be organized to get more money in order for him to continue
receiving treatment from home. The successful concert happened on 17th
September and came a success. Though rumours has it that some money was stolen
in the process. According to the mother of the deceased, only Shs1.5m was
delivered to them as proceeds from the concert and before even the organizers
were brought to book, the producer passed on 19 days later.
Real names Daniel Mukiisa, Danz
kumapesa was the last born in a family of four (two boys and two girls), born
and raised by a single mother known as Ms Jenifer Kisaakye. Danz Kumapeesa
started music production in 2013 in Banda at a friend’s studio before joining
Concave in kireka, Trinity Records in Mutungo and then J Power before he joined
Jahlive.
Danz Kumapeesa has worked with many
artistes including Winnie Nwagi, Ziza Bafana, Eddy Kenzo, Rema Namakula, Irene
Ntale, Ray Signature, Diana Nalubega and Bebe Cool among others and he’s famed
for songs he produced like ‘Musawo and Magic by Winnie Nwagi, ‘Mbozi Zamalwa by
Bebe Cool and Sauti Sol, ‘Yo sweet by Rema Namakula, ‘Nkibanja by Lydia Jazmine
and 'Nakup‘nda by Fille among others.
Ntv the beat host Douglas lwanga who
felt a big surprise was quoted saying “Ugandan music industry will never forget
the good work you have been doing. The music you created will leave on”

near Busitema university.
